Apha: Documentary Photography from Children in South Africa
A partnership with ArtWorks for Youth

Co-founders Liz Titone and Elizabeth Brown Eagle, co-founders of e² education & environment, joined forces with local NGO, ArtWorks for Youth to teach documentary photography to teens in Joe Slovo township, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. While interpreting community through the lens of the camera, the students discovered that their community of 8,000 inhabitants was not on the map of the city. This shocking fact inspired the group to photograph all that was dear to them in their community. The result of their efforts was a traveling exhibition titled Apha: Documentary Photography from Children in South Africa. Curriculum for the exhibition was designed to accompany the exhibition.
